After last nights very successful and fun teleclass on authorship and self-publishing
(thank you Michele Caron for interviewing me), I have received several questions over email regarding how I manage my
time. I spend about about an hour every morning and an hour later in the day (evening or afternoon) responding to emails, updating
my website, blogging, and social networking. My writing and my life coaching business is a full time schedule, but I choose
to make it that way. I still control my schedule and am able to drop my kids off at school and pick them up. I also carpool
for activities and am very involved in our church. I do feel like I am balanced. There may be times when I feel obsessive
about writing-but that is okay, too. I look at it the way I do when I am getting ready for vacation-there is a mad rush that
is exhilarating. So, when I feel like writing for long periods of time, I have learned not to worry about it. When I start
feeling bad about the time I spend writing, then I know it is time to take a break. If I feel a creative spurt-I go with
it. Of course, I still do feed the kids :) The key is to stop saying "I should". When I am
with the kids-I enjoy the kids. When I am setting aside time to write-I enjoy that too. I have learned to trust
myself.
“You are never given a dream
without also being given the power to make it true. You may have to work for it, however. Richard Bach” This is a beautiful quote and so true. I interpret this quote
as telling me that my dreams are important. If I am dreaming something, I have or can acquire the tools, skills, and resources
to make the dream a reality. The second part of the quote indicates that there needs to be action. Many people dream and do
nothing. The key is to dream and take action. I had a dream ever since I was a young woman that I would be a published author
one day. I just knew it would happen. I gave several attempts to writing books. I thought I would write a novel. I never really
got going, though. I would write a few chapters and stall. I began to see that my first book did not need
to be a novel. I should write what I was born to write and motivated to write. A lifelong interest for me is personal leadership.
I have read hundreds of leadership books. My graduate studies have focused on leadership and my doctoral studies have also
focused on leadership. I am and have been fascinated by the fact that people with similar skills and backgrounds achieve on
drastically different levels. I also live a spiritual life and devote time to prayer and meditation. I began to see my spiritual
life merge with personal leadership skills, and I also experienced recovery from a tragedy in my life. I realized that my
book would really be my story. I would describe my quest of recovery and seeking joy and success in life. I had the book inside
of me. When I began to write seriously, it took me five and half weeks to complete my inspirational book, “Keys to Living
Joyfully”. Five and half months from day one of working on the book- I published. I had a huge learning curve regarding
publishing, but I had the power to make it happen. Did it take work? Yes, it most definitely did. However, it was truly joyful
work, and it all started with a dream.
Every person has unique life experiences,
perspectives, and thoughts. If we knew at the beginning of life, exactly where our path would lead us; we might not have the
courage to put one foot in front of the other. Each person experiences sadness, joy, disappointment, happiness, and times
of relative balance. Some have more dramatic and/or traumatic moments. However, I think we all have a story to tell. I felt that I needed to tell my story because
I experienced tragedy at a very young age. Prior to this, I was on a successful path as a very good, well rounded student.
I had my life mapped out and a plan in place on how I would achieve all of my dreams. Then tragedy struck. I floundered and
struggled to create a new path. Often times, I felt like I would start to live again, and then I would experience a setback.
I always was on a quest.
I read motivational and inspirational books for over 20 years. Some created paradigm shifts in my life. I inched forward.
Eventually, I experienced recovery. When I began to merge my leadership training and my spirituality, I saw rapid growth.
When I began to live almost every day feeling joyful, I felt this deep desire to share my thoughts and findings with others.
I know there are others like me. I thought that I did not deserve to feel joy. Maybe you wonder if you can ever truly experience
joy, peace, passion, and energy. I wondered, too. Now, I do live a truly joyful life with peace, passion, energy, and joy
throughout my days. My
book shares my keys to living joyfully that work for me and for my life-coaching clients. In the book, I share stories and
examples. I give opportunities for you to think and reflect on your own life. I pose questions and there is room to write
thoughts and ideas in the book. I have a Christian faith perspective with a loving and gentle approach to helping you move
forward in your life.
When I was 17, my 15-year-old brother
died tragically. This altered the path of my life. I was scheduled to attend an east coast college and I could not bear to
leave my parents when they were grieving. For years after my brother’s death, I felt numb and thought
I did not deserve to be truly happy ever again. Gradually, I healed, but still struggled with on and off depression. I married
my husband and gave birth to three beautiful children. I worked in a career that I loved; yet, I did not truly enjoy my success.
I read hundreds of books on leadership and motivation. When I went deeper into my spiritual life, I experienced a way to merge
my personal leadership skills and my spirituality. My life clicked into place. I became truly happy, and I felt so free. I,
then, had a deep desire to share my keys with others. I hoped that people would be inspired to tap their sources of joy. This
desire created my book idea for Keys to Living Joyfully. I have been receiving personal stories from my readers telling
me that their hearts have been touched. Each person seems to have a different part of the book that is most meaningful. I
feel so blessed and grateful.
